    Here are the two strategies he recommends:

    The first strategy, labelled as the ‘Empathetic reply,’ encourages individuals to respond with empathy when faced with an insult. When someone insults you, the initial step is to pause and assess the situation. Allen suggests taking a moment to look around and then inquire about the insulter’s well-being. He advises showing authentic empathy or, if needed, convincingly feigning empathy. Responding with aggression is cautioned against, as it may exacerbate the situation. Allen emphasizes that insults often stem from the inner suffering of the insulter, making empathy a potentially effective response.

    In the second strategy, Allen suggests ignoring the insult, a method he refers to as the ‘Did you hear anything?’ approach. Regardless of whether the insult occurs in a one-on-one or group setting, the key is to maintain a composed facial expression and continue the ongoing conversation. By remaining unruffled and unresponsive, you can likely make the insulter uncomfortable, while also retaining control of the situation, as explained by Allen.
